White Fabric

White fabric forms the perfect base material for a variety of projects, including quilting and embroidery. If you are buying fabric for dyeing, including batik or tie-dye, avoid polyester fabric and other man-made fibers, and choose a cotton or linen fabric instead. White makes a great choice for lining clothing or backing other projects, especially if the outer fabrics are light-colored. If you plan to appliqué shapes and letters for a banner or wall hanging, choosing white as your ground fabric can improve the sense of contrast, especially if you allow sunlight to shine through and illuminate your work.
